Dental Implant Process

What happens and how long will it take?

Step 1

Firstly you will have an initial consultation. This usually lasts for 30-40 minutes where all the various treatment options will be explored. Full mouth X-rays and study models will also be taken at this time. Following on from this, a treatment plan will be sent to you or your referring dentist.

Step 2

If the patient is happy to go ahead, then a surgical appointment is made for the placement of the implant. If you are having multiple implants, these can usually be fitted in one appointment. We always use resorbable sutures saving you an additional visit to remove them. A soft diet is recommended initially, particularly if a temporary denture is being worn.

Step 3

After a healing period, normally within two to six months, the implants are checked to make sure they have fully integrated into the bone, thereby keeping them firmly in place. A small surgical procedure is used to expose the implant so a post or abutment can then be fitted onto it. An impression of your teeth will be taken and sent to our Dental Technicians to make up your crowns and bridges. We will also do a colour match and make a record of your bite. You will then be fitted with a temporary crown/bridge whilst your new one is being made.

Step 4

The final crowns and bridges are fitted onto the implant abutment, usually one week to ten days later.

Please note the above should only be used as a guideline as each case will be treated on an individual basis. We are also available to discuss any queries or concerns you may have.
